Living in the Present



One of the most important and difficult lessons that I’m learning is to live in the present. Too often I worry about what I don’t have, how I don’t look, goals I haven’t reached yet, and on and on and on. And I know that I’m not the only one who does this. Especially with the advancement of technology we are bombarded constantly with ideas and images that can cause us to forget to live in the present. We see people that have accomplished things that we haven’t yet. We daydream about the what if’s and could have’s. We even have Throwback Thursdays that cause us to relive the past (good or bad). With all of that we forget a universal truth; We cannot relive the past or pre-live the future. All we have is now and it’s important to live it.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s merit in learning from our past mistakes and definitely in planning for the future. The important thing is that we shouldn’t dwell on either so much that we forget to actually LIVE.

Tips for Living in the Present

Focus on the Now.  Whatever task you are supposed to be doing, do it. And only it. Washing dishes? Wash the dishes. (Yes, happiness can even be found in washing dishes.) Playing with your kids. Actually play with your kids. Working out? Focus on every rep. Try not to let your mind wander to other things. You can’t do those right now anyways so savor the moment. Ferris has it right,

Be Thankful.  This is something we normally only think about in November, but we should focus on being thankful every day of the year. Yes, there’s always going to be somebody who has it “better” that you (subjectively maybe), but there’s plenty who have it way worse. Focus on what you have instead of what you don’t, what you can do instead of what you can’t, and even who your friends are instead of those that aren’t. Also, don’t forget to tell people you are thankful. You just might make their day. Lastly,

Smile. Seriously, just smile. It can really change how you feel.

Jumping In To The World of Beachbody

Iou may look at me now and think, “man it must be easy for that guy.” But that’s definitely not the case. Check out this quick video of how I jumped into the world of Beachbody.

“I jumped back in with P90X2 and saw great results in 2012 with P90X and X2 with a huge loss of 38 pounds, down to 192 lbs by our wedding day in May. However, after I got married in May of 2012 I gained all of it back…back to 230 pounds. Through the rest of that year I tried to stay consistent, but failed. And as it always seems to go, I would stay up late at night and see those crazy infomercials for Beachbody programs like P90X and Insanity, wishing I could do what they did. Then one day it clicked. I was done messing around.  I decided I COULD DO IT. I signed up for a free Team Beachbody account and got plugged into a year long challenge group with Coach Wayne Wyatt.  I took my before photos and posted them in my workout room as a reminder to BRING IT every single day and I started drinking Shakeology.

I started with a round of P90X2 and lost 38 pounds (again lol!) although I still felt uncomfortable in my own body and was constantly sucking in my stomach. Next up was T25. I was drawn to the idea of a 25 minute workout and lost 9 pounds in one round, but I still wanted more.  I completed a round of Body Beast to finish out 2013 and I actually didn’t gain or lose any significant weight doing Beast, but my body composition changed dramatically. I felt stronger and leaner than ever before, even from high school when I was involved in football and wrestling.  After Body Beast I couldn’t resist getting P90X3.  Tony Horton is just simply the best and he has created a really great program in X3 that is going to change lives!  Through my round of P90X3 I lost 9 lbs.

My mindset about health, fitness and life has changed. I tell people all the time that it’s not just about losing weight. I think one of the greatest outcomes is the confidence gained through the process and my confidence is back! I want others to gain the same results that I have achieved. It’s my passion and goal to help End the Trend.  People think they can’t get these results at home, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Beachbody says it best. “DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED!” Anything is possible if you put your mind to it!”

My life before Beachbody

I hope you are all crushing it with whatever programs you are doing and are tracking your nutrition. If you do those two things then you will see great results. You may look at me now and think, “man it must be easy for that guy.” But that’s definitely not the case. Check out this quick video on my life before I jumped into the world of Beachbody.

“First a little background about myself. I always was involved in physical activities growing up, but when college came around, I didn’t do quite as much. I started my freshman year of college (fall 2006) at 185 lbs, yet graduated in the fall of 2009 at 230 lbs.  And the worst part about it is that I didn’t even realize the huge difference in myself at the time.  While in graduate school, I tried several times to do P90X and saw results, but I never really gave it my all – especially on the nutrition front. Greasy burgers and cheese quesadillas were daily staples in my diet. Something had to change! Three years passed by and starting in 2012 I was still completely out of shape at 230 pounds. I couldn’t walk up the stairs without getting winded. My diet was crap and my laziness even worse. I was out of control. I had no self confidence in myself and I remember picking out the clothes I was going to wear based on how much I could hide. I was uncomfortable in my own skin.”

Getting FIT for SUMMER!

GoalCrushers2What’s happening! I know, it’s only February, but it’s time to start thinking about getting Fit with the Fellowship for Summer! Yep, starting March 15th we officially launch our Summer challenge group so that you’ll be in the best shape of your life for all of Summer’s awesome activites (aka backyard BBQs, pool parties, vacations, etc.)!  The group will meet in a private Facebook group and we will share our struggles, successes, what to eat, how to eat, motivation, encouragement… you name it and we will do it. This thing is all about you baby! This is your group and it’s time to get after it. We will soley be focusing on Beachbody fitness programs (if you are still looking for an awesome accountability group check out out 2015 – Let’s Get It Challenge which is open to all on my team).

I’ll tell you that I’m sick and tired of setting a goal every year to get ripped by Summer and never getting there. Well, this year it’s happening and I want you to reach and surpass your goals also! So what do I want from you?

1) I don’t want your cash. You don’t have to buy anything to get started. Beg, borrow, whatever you have to do to get a Beachbody program, do it! I’d be glad to point you in the right direction if you need to get something new (my Store). I personally will be continuing on with a Body Beast/ MAX 30 hybrid.

2) I do want your commitment. The best way to get results is to stay consistent day after day hitting your nutritional and workout goals. I want you to stay plugged in and share daily in the Facebook group.

That’s it. Pretty simple right? Now let’s get ready to get it done. This is the year you reach your goals so join my Team Beachbody team if you haven’t already

This week’s Monday Motivation is all about eating right.  We’ve all heard that results are 80% nutrition and 20% fitness, but I believe you have to approach each as if it’s 100% and 100%.
